Being chased in dreams

Avoidance. Something inside you is asking to be turned toward, not outrun.

Overview

Chase dreams almost never resolve until the dreamer stops running. The pursuer — whether human, animal, or shadow — is usually a disowned part of the self knocking to be re-integrated.

Psychological reading

Jung framed the chaser as the Shadow: traits we've exiled because they seemed unacceptable. Modern trauma research reads recurring chase dreams as the nervous system rehearsing escape from an unresolved threat.

Common scenarios

  • Chased by a faceless figure

Anxiety without a clear source. The dream is pointing at the feeling, not the cause.

  • Chased by an animal

An instinct — anger, desire, ambition — you've been suppressing.

  • Turning to face the chaser

Breakthrough. A part of you is ready to negotiate instead of flee.
